Declutter Like a Waitress

This is a quick tip I learned from a waitress friend.  Her #1 rule:  never move anywhere without having something in your hands.  As a waitress she was always either delivering or removing items…. The lightbulb went off in my head!!!!  This totally works for our homes.  Every time we move from one space to another we should have something in our hands.  Either we are throwing it away, relocating it to the proper space or taking a positive action toward tidiness.  If we grabbed something every time we moved from room to room imagine how effortless it would become to keep things tidy.  As I move through my living room I grab the bottles on the dining room table and the sheds of paper on the floor(curtesy of the dogs) and deposited them in the trash or recycle; BOOM! DONE!   When I walk to the bedroom take the laundry basket, when I come back out I’m carrying the bathroom trash can to empty.  It becomes almost a game but it you start practicing it and putting it into your daily routine think of how fast your house would become tidier.

Give this a try and let me know what you think.  I would love to hear from you
